Kenny Dunkan draws from Caribbean carnival’s transformative energy to explore identity, colonial legacies, and representation. Using video, performance, sculpture, and assemblage, he stages his own body to navigate hybridity and contradiction—blending the natural and artificial, material and spiritual.
For The Distorted Party, his project is inspired by the sounds and sights of Guadeloupean twilight, combining sound recordings of nocturnal fauna with a video installation. This work evokes the rhythmic energy of a nightclub while reflecting the hidden wonders of his native island.
Born 1988, Guadeloupe. Lives and works in Paris.
A graduate of the École nationale des Arts Décoratifs de Paris, Dunkan has exhibited at Lafayette Anticipations, CNAP, and Galerie Les Filles du Calvaire. He was a resident at Villa Medici and the first Reiffers Art Initiatives laureate.
